Building better health, together
“A Lifetime of Health”
Shoulder pain can make sleeping, working and reaching overhead hard work. At our Corio and Norlane clinics in Geelong our physiotherapists assess what’s behind your shoulder pain and build a plan to get it moving and strong again.
Common shoulder problems we treat
- Rotator cuff pain and tendon problems
- Shoulder impingement-type pain
- Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)
- Dislocations and instability
- Rehab after shoulder surgery
- Shoulder pain from work or sport
How physiotherapy helps
For most shoulder pain, a well-designed exercise program is the main treatment. It builds strength and control in the rotator cuff and shoulder blade muscles and gradually restores movement. Alongside exercise we may use hands-on treatment, dry needling, taping and advice on work and sleeping positions to help settle pain.
Shoulder problems often build up over time from repeated overhead work, lifting or sport, so we also look at the tasks and training that load your shoulder each day.
What to expect
We’ll look at how your shoulder, neck and upper back move, test strength and stability, and explain what is likely causing your pain. If we think you need a scan or a specialist opinion, we’ll tell you and work with your GP.
When to seek urgent care
See a doctor promptly if you can’t lift your arm after a fall or injury, if the shoulder looks deformed, or if pain comes with fever or a hot, swollen joint. Shoulder or arm pain with chest pain, shortness of breath or sweating can be a sign of a heart problem: call 000 straight away.

Shoulder Pain FAQs
How long does shoulder pain take to get better?
It depends on the cause. Many rotator cuff problems improve over six to twelve weeks of consistent exercise. Frozen shoulder can take much longer, often many months, and treatment focuses on easing pain and keeping movement.
Should I rest my sore shoulder?
Complete rest usually isn’t the answer. Your physio will help you find the right amount of movement and exercise, easing off the activities that flare it while keeping the shoulder working.
Do I need a scan?
Not usually to start with. Many shoulder problems can be diagnosed and treated without imaging. If something in your assessment suggests a significant tear or another problem, we will refer you for further investigation.
